General Guidelines for Using Trimix

  • Start with prescribed dose. Increase by 5-10 units or less with each trial.
  • The proper dose will produce an erection that lasts 1.5 hours or less.
  • Never re-inject on the same day! Even if the injection does not work.
  • The medication will be effective in 15 to 30 minutes, varies with each patient.
  • Once a week use or less is recommended (to reduce risk of scarring), but no more than three times per week maximum usage.
  • Allow at least 48 hours between each use to avoid priapism (prolonged erection).

Storage of Trimix

  • The medication can be stored in the freezer for 6 months or refrigerator for 3 months
  • It can be thawed and refrozen.
  • The medication will lose potency over time, adjust accordingly but always start with original dose when using a fresh vial to avoid priapism (prolonged erection).

Risks of Trimix

  • #1 Risk is priapism (prolonged erection): priapism is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY.
  • If you have an erection greater than four hours, you must seek medical attention or risk irreparable injury to your penis.
  • Penile scarring from repeated injections, poor technique, or failure to alternate sites

Injecting Trimix

  • Injection location: 10:00-11:00 or 1:00-2:00 o’clock position on the penis, see below.
  • Alternate sides and locations on shaft to reduce risk of scarring and penile curvature.
  • Hold pressure at injection site for two minutes. This will decrease bruising/scarring.

Priapism Instructions

Warning: If you have been advised not to take Sudafed (pseudoephedrine HCl) for any reason, the recommendation to try Sudafed to treat priapism does not apply to you.

  • Take 2 tablets of Sudafed, 60mg total of pseudoephedrine (the real kind that you have to ask the cashier / pharmacist at CVS/Walgreens to get behind the counter)
  • Empty your bladder
  • Ejaculate (if you can)
  • Exercise – run around the block, get your heart rate up, to try and divert blood away from the penis and to your muscles
  • Take a shower (hot or cold)
  • Ice pack to the penis

If none of these steps work and you are coming up to 4 hours:
